Anika Legal

Anika Legal

Anika Legal seeks to solve this social inequality by providing an online platform that gives free legal advice to vulnerable members of the community.

Each year, 490,000 Australians don’t get the legal help they need due to an overburdened legal system. At the same time, only 0.3% of Australians qualify for legal aid. This means that people with a legal problem who don’t fall into that 0.3% but can’t afford a lawyer, aren’t protected by the justice system. Anika Legal connects people who need legal help with law students enrolled at partner universities, who are supervised by experienced lawyers to provide high quality, free advice.

2019 Pitch
Funds raised: $25,200

Noel Lim from Anika Legal pitched at TFN Melbourne for funding to expand their team so they can continue to provide free legal advice to people in need and scale their impact, providing more accessible legal support to vulnerable members of the community.

The Impact…

The funding has enabled Anika Legal to employ a principal lawyer and establish an independent legal practice to continue providing legal assistance to vulnerable Victorians. The team has since launched a COVID-19 rent reduction service and assisted more than 180 Victorians in need to maintain safe and secure housing, including a significant number who experienced housing insecurity throughout the pandemic.
