One Girl
Over 130 million girls worldwide are denied the right to go to school. Amongst its various initiatives to tackle this issue and provide greater access to education for girls, One Girl has launched its ‘Business Brains’ program. The three-year program provides small grants and business training to young women in rural Uganda to help them to kick-start their own businesses and gain economic independence.
2019 Pitch
Funds raised: $29,300
At TFN Melbourne, One Girl pitched for funding to support a further 78 young Ugandan women in their vocational and life skills training through ‘Business Brains.’ The funds raised on the night were targeted to support young women in rural Uganda to start their own businesses and become independent.
The Impact…
Business Brains sets women up with the knowledge, skills and connections for success. The funding raised at TFN Live supported research, training and the recruitment of more than 200 new participants in a new way. Girls were invited to apply based on their motivation and aspirations, marking an exciting step towards refocusing the conversation from young women’s ‘vulnerability’ to their abilities and talents.
