Stella Bella Little Stars Foundation
The organisation has already offered support and assistance to 700 local families, delivering a wide range of programs including respite care, financial support and bereavement support. Many of the children the organisation supports have chronic and life-limiting medical conditions, with limited access to learning and socialisation.
2019 Pitch
Funds raised: $28,990
At TFN Live Canberra, Suzanne Tunks spoke of the social isolation and limited learning opportunities experienced by children with chronic and life-threatening conditions. She pitched for funding to enable these children to attend school with a specialised support worker by their side.
The impact…
The funding has been directed to an experienced worker to attend one term of preschool with the child featured in the pitch, little Maddie, and then transition with her and support her through her first year of kindy. The program has also worked with three other schools and the education department in advocacy, support and preparation to enable more children to attend with the support that they need.
“The TFN funding meant that we could launch straight into our much needed program without scrabbling to fundraise. Given the way 2020 has turned out, and the cancellation of our major fundraising events, having received the financial support through the TFN event in September meant that the program could go ahead unencumbered.
It's hard to put a number on the amount of people positively impacted when you support a family who has a child with a chronic medical condition but the support trickles far beyond that one child. I would have to say that through our transition to school program in the past year over 60 people have been impacted positively by our program and that figure doesn't include the positive impacts on classmates and school communities.” - Suzanne Tunks, Founder/CEO
