Grass Skirt Project believes that sport has the potential to drive profound social change. Their initiatives aim to empower individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to challenge societal norms, promote gender equality, and combat gender-based violence. By nurturing leadership qualities, the Grass Skirt Project strives to create a generation of empowered individuals who can advocate for change, inspire others, and build a future free from violence and discrimination in PNG.
2023 Pitch
Funds Raised: $55,620
Founder, Tahina pitched to raise money and support for their 10 Million Strong Program. Which is a leadership program designed to spark students' enthusiasm for learning about gender equality and cultivating active citizenship in their own communities through sport-based programming. They use interactive activities as a platform to introduce new ideas, encouraging the students to become compassionate leaders who understand where their beliefs originate from, and ultimately help alter negative attitudes towards violence against women. The project is a first in Papua New Guinea and is designed to specifically suit Papua New Guinean culture and society. Overall, the program aim is for the students to gain the confidence to be part of a culture of respect and safety.

Grass Skirt Project supported 14 young people through a 12 week program that focused on different aspects of leadership and GBV prevention.
