The impact...
There is a lot that goes on behind the curtains to make a great show. Unfortunately, this has been a key barrier for people with a disability, costing them the opportunity to perform, be seen and be heard. Rawcus is working to change that. And thanks to your generous support, they have been able to empower people with a disability to break down the barriers and perform in front of an audiences around Victoria.
At TFN Melbourne, Rawcus raised over $18,000 thanks to a room full of generous donors. They have used that funding to enable people with a disability to participate in the creative process. They’re putting on a show called ‘Song for a Weary Throat’ (formerly titled ‘Forever Home’). There are now disability support workers who are assisting the 15 ensemble members get to rehearsal and fully participate in the performance. Further to that, the funding will also be used to provide Auslan interpreters for deaf audience members on the day of People with a Disability. The ensemble members are now busy at work preparing for the show. Their days are filled with purpose, creative expression and they want you to see it!
The show ‘Song for a Weary Throat’ will be premiering in November – you can get your tickets here:
“We are so grateful to all at TFN and all the donors who attended and supported Song for a Weary Throat. It has made a world of difference to Rawcus and more importantly to the Ensemble members with and without disability who will have the opportunity to perform thanks to your support in meeting their needs” – Jacque Robinson, General Manager
