Food Within
Empowering communities to help themselves by allowing families to be able to pay what they can afford for healthy food.
Their aim is to reach more families in cities and rural areas of Australia. Food Within is a family company, run by Alicia and Neil Martin, with their two boys Wayne and Brad. Food Within Founder Alicia founded the business as a response to challenges in her own family life. The first is one that's faced by many ordinary Australians: the need to find affordable ways of providing a balanced, healthy diet for her family when the household finances are under mortgage stress. The second challenge for Alicia was managing the learning difficulties of her second child using dietary rather than pharmaceutical means. Wings 2 Carry U program is a simple but effective model. Families pay what they can afford for healthy food, then barter their time to cover the remaining costs. They have access to healthy fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meat and pantry items with no additives or preservatives. They also learn basic life skills through the program, which looks at eight areas of their lives: Finance, Family, Physical/Emotional, Healthy Smile, Social, Cultural, Inner Healing and Education.
