Deadly Connections aims to create change, improve outcomes and empower Aboriginal people by disrupting cycles of disadvantage, trauma and justice system involvement.

Deadly Connections is a specialist Aboriginal non-profit service, established in 2018 as a direct community response to address the over-representation of Aboriginal people, families and communities in the justice and out of home care system.

2019 Pitch
Funds raised: $86,000

Deadly Connections was pitched at TFN Sydney to launch its Parents and Bubs service – a locally-run program to support disadvantaged and at-risk Aboriginal parents and families to gain culturally responsive parenting support. The goal is to reduce the risk of child protection intervention and child removal in these communities by empowering Aboriginal parents.

The Impact…

Thanks to the funding raised at TFN Virtual Live, Deadly Connections provided intensive support to 26 families and were able to prevent two newborn babies from being removed from the hospital and into child protection. Twenty other families were supported with information, advocacy and/or referral to other services or agencies.

CEO Carly Stanley, says that without this funding, Deadly Connections would not have had the resources to support any of these families:

“The TFN funding has been instrumental and vital to the development of Deadly Connections as our first fully funded program. Without this funding, we would not have been able to increase our reach to community through culturally responsive services and programs. Given the significant over representation of Aboriginal families with child protection involvement, this program is an essential service for our community.”
