Bendigo FoodShare
Bendigo Foodshare (BFS) provides food relief to 94 organisations across Central Victoria, including charities, community groups, neighbourhood houses, schools and kindergartens. During the pandemic, the organisations reported the need for food relief rose by 30%. To meet this increasing need, Bendigo FoodShare went from sourcing and distributing 755,000kg of food a year to 893,000kg.
2021 Pitch
Funds Raised: $27,000
Bendigo Food Share was built on the belief that everyone should have access to healthy and affordable food and that everyone should be able to access food with dignity. At TFN Rebuilding Regional Victoria, the organisation pitched for funds to launch an inclusive community space which also creates pathways to employment, consisting of a social supermarket to offer food relief; a pop-up kitchen that serves as a café or cooking club; and a food garden.
The Impact
Over the past 12 months Bendigo FoodShare has been moving forward with their plans to build a purpose built warehouse and community food hub which enables people to access food in a dignified way. They are currently in Phase 1 of the building project and are looking forward to its completion which will enable the organisation to support thousands more people in the Bendigo Region.
