Beddown
According to Beddown, 8,000 vulnerable people sleep rough every night across Australia. Approximately 1,800 of these are young people. Beddown tackles this by taking spaces that are commonly busy during the day but vacant at night, such as car parks, and repurposes them into nightly pop-up accommodation to ensure those who are sleeping rough have a bed for the evening. It also partners with service providers that offer shower and laundry services, food, clothing and health and wellbeing support.
2020 Pitch
Funds raised: $73,200
How can a country as lucky and prosperous as Australia have so many young people sleeping rough and homeless? This question was at the heart of Beddown CEO Norm’s pitch at TFN Live Sydney, where he was looking to raise much-needed funds to pilot a solution to youth homelessness. The Beddown pilot program will enable young people in Sydney to access safe and secure pop-up accommodation in partnership with Secure Parking.
