CASSE
Established in 2009, CASSE (Creating A Safe Supportive Environment) applies cultural and psychoanalytic methods to enable change and recovery in Aboriginal communities, specifically addressing mental health issues of trauma reflected in high suicide and violence rates in Central Australia.
2020 Pitch
Funds Raised: $54,350
Pamela Nathan, Director Australian Aboriginal Relations Program, pitched at TFN Virtual Live for funding to provide cultural camps for traumatised youth in the justice system and their elders.
The Impact…
CASSE used the funding to deliver a series of cultural camps for the youth in town at the DKA site and in the remote communities of Santa Teresa and Finke. Over forty -eight identified high risk youth and some family members were engaged in the camps on country involved in making tools, learning how to care for country, to find and prepare traditional foods and engaged in conversation about the problems and the possibilities they face. The youth said they felt happy, safe, proud and strong being on country.
